Give A Great Alternative Gift for Mother's Day, Teacher Appreciation...or GRADUATION!

Below is what we wrote for holiday giving.  But  now it's almost Mother's Day, coincidental with a show of Teacher Appreciation at school year's end, & graduations.  Who needs more STUFF?  Give a gift that every mother will cherish, a gift like no other, a gift that will help change the world.  Same for teachers.  No hand lotion or potted plant ever gave a poor child a future!  Have a special request?  Let us know--we will customize any alternative gift card for any occasion.

Service Trip: January/February 2012

"Travel is death to prejudice" said Mark Twain.  I second it!  When you are far away from home, stripped of all that's familiar and comfortable, you can do one of two things:  retreat to your hotel room with a jar of peanut butter and a spoon, or embrace the opportunity for adventure and growth.  Your preconceived notions of a people and land will disappear as you surrender to experience and discover friends and new joys.  When people ask me "What are Africans like?"  I tell them "Look in the mirror."  This is quite true...wherever I've travelled I've found that people are

FILM: Buster, Willie, Nelson, Cricket, Otis. YOU, TOO, CAN NAME A GOAT IN AFRICA!

Another of our great donated dairy goats, named by Steve from Glendale, Arizona.  The goats yield 2-3 litres of rich milk every day.  The firstborn kid is returned, to be given to another family.  This builds community and ensures accountability and sustainability of this program in Kenya.  Want to name a goat?  Email us & we'll send you a fabulous gift card.  A perfect Christmas present to someone in Africa who has nothing, from someone who has everything!  We film the family in Africa and send the film to you.

FILM: A Goat Named Mary...and Virginia...and Sweeney...and Cricket....

One of our most productive programs is the dairy goat project.  Donors in the U.S. give $150;  in return they receive a handmade goat gift card.  The recipient of the card gets to name the goat!  Plus, we take his or her picture to Africa to give the goat's new family.  This video, although amateur, depicts parents receiving their life-giving goats for their families.  Please view our other videos to learn of our other income-generating projects.

FILM: Everlyne & Shirley: Would you be able to respond like this?

This is the story of Everlyne, who lives in Kibera and heads Women's Power Group, one of the co-ops supported by HARAMBEE.  I got a big surprise when meeting with Everlyne.  She'd come to deliver skirts I ordered.  If you like them, you can purchase one for $30 including postage.  Email me:  keen@harambee.lorg

GROW A DOC: Filmed interview with Samuel

We are so proud of our student Samuel, recommended to us by Sister Florence Muia of Upendo Village.  He successfully completed his first year of the clinical officer program at Kenya Methodist University in Meru, Kenya and has distinguished himself as a leader.  Giving this wonderful young man a future, a future serving others, was possible through your help.  When we visited Meru last February we met with him and heard his story.  Here it is for you, just click here.
