Innovation in Africa [1]

[1]

At Upendo Village in Naivasha:  We are holding a sleeping mat crocheted with a very large crochet hook (which I am holding) from plastic bag strips.  This mat was graciously donated by a member of the SISTERS group at St. Thomas More Church in Glendale, Arizona.  The pattern will be copied and used by the women in the self-help groups here at Upendo Village.  These mats will provide important protection from the cold night ground for those who do not have beds or blankets.

NOTE:  Dear Sister Francesca, far right, succumbed to ovarian cancer on April 17, 2013.  Her loss is a terrible blow to the sisters and good people of Upendo Village and Naivasha.  May she rest in peace!
