Judy

Judy is a cook at the orphanage.  She never smiled--ever--until I begged her to do so for a photo.  Then I learned why she was not happy:  Six months before, she had given birth to a baby girl.  At age two months the baby contracted malaria.  Two weeks after that, in a weakened state, she developed pneumonia and died.

No one needs to get malaria.  Babies do not need to die from pneumonia.  Worldwide, 3 million people a year die from malaria, most of them children.
